
School of Automation Science and Electrical Engineering (hereinafter referred to as “the School”) was established in August 1954, originally known as the School of Aircraft Equipment of Aviation Academy of Beijing. Over the past seven decades, the school has cultivated a large number of distinguished professionals, including Academy Fellows, principal engineers, celebrated entrepreneurs, and leading aerospace engineers. The school has achieved numerous national “firsts” in scientific research and engineering practice, and has developed into a premier national center for high-caliber talent cultivation and cutting-edge research in aerospace automation, making remarkable contributions to China’s aerospace endeavors.
The school is in possession of solid foundation in a number of disciplines. Two level one disciplines and six level two disciplines are based on the school, among which two disciplines are recognized as National Key Level One Disciplines and other five as National Key Level Two Disciplines. The Level One Discipline “Control Science and Engineering” are identified as category A in the construction of “Double First-Class”.
With a strong tradition of excellence in education and advanced teaching facilities, the school has been awarded more than ten national and municipal teaching achievement prizes. Its faculty has developed a number of National Excellent Courses, National Exemplary Bilingual Courses, and Beijing Municipal Excellent Courses and Teaching Demonstration Centers. The school places strong emphasis on cultivating both scientific research competence and practical innovation capability among its students.
Guided by the mission of nurturing innovation-driven talent, the school upholds scientific research as its driving force, education as its foundation, and discipline development as its cornerstone. It is committed to building an internationally renowned institution of automation distinguished by the deep integration of aerospace, information, and intelligent technologies. Through sustained efforts in research innovation, talent development, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the school continues to contribute to the advancement of automation science and to China’s progress as a global leader in aerospace technology.
“Control Science and Engineering” was identified as National Key Level One Discipline in 2007 and includes six level two disciplines. Rooted in the research and application background of aeronautic and astronautic vehicles, it also addresses major needs in national economic development. The discipline adheres to the integrated principle of original fundamental research, innovative technological breakthroughs, and major engineering applications. Significant research achievements have been made in key areas such as aerospace bionic intelligence, swarm intelligent control, and the industrial internet, contributing greatly to national projects and the advancement of control science in China. The discipline of “Mechanical Engineering” was founded in 1960, approved to confer master’s degrees in 1981 and doctoral degrees in 1986, and was recognized as a National Key Discipline in 2007. As one of the earliest disciplines featuring aerospace technology established among aviation and aerospace universities in China, it possesses a solid academic foundation and distinctive aerospace characteristics. The discipline maintains a leading position nationwide in research areas such as airborne electro-hydraulic systems and equipment, advanced actuators and their control systems, and hydraulic system health management, having produced a series of innovative achievements with significant technological and engineering impact.
