Introduction of School of Engineering Medicine

The School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering and the School of Engineering Medicine at Beihang University are international and nationally leading institutions for distinctive education and scientific research in the field of biomedical engineering. The two schools jointly construct the discipline of biomedical engineering, which aims at the cutting-edge innovation of human health and space medicine and is featured by the deep integration of medicine and engineering. Our mission is to foster leaders to engineer the future of medicine, improve human health and promote economic and social development through interdisciplinary insight into medical and biological problems.

More than 20 national and provincial research platforms, such as the National Industry & Education Integration Platform for Advanced Medical Equipment and the Key Laboratory of Biomechanics and Mechanobiology of the Ministry of Education, have been jointly built by the two schools, providing excellent facilities for discipline development, student training and scientific research. Currently, there are more than 140 teachers, including 50+ professors and 50+ associate professors. More than 40 of them serve in important international and domestic academic organizations, and 18 of them have been selected as national excellent talents.

The academic field of Biomedical Engineering at Beihang University encompasses five primary research directions:

1. Biomechanics and Mechanobiology:

— to understand physiological and pathological phenomena in organisms, particularly the human body, using mechanical principles and methods. aiming to improve human health.

2. Biomaterials and Artificial Organs:

— involves multi-scale investigation of biomaterials, tissue engineering, and artificial organs.

3. New Generation Imaging and Diagnostic Technology:

— focuses on key areas such as non-invasive in vivo imaging, brain functional imaging, and medical big data, etc.

4. New Generation Treatment and Intelligent Medical Equipment:

— focuses on key areas such as human-computer interaction, intelligent surgical navigation technology, and robotic systems, etc..

5. Aerospace Medical Engineering and Special-Environment Life Support:

— focuses on key areas such as space life support, injury prevention and protection, space physiology, and ergonomics, etc.
