Physics at Beihang University traces its origins to 1952 with the establishment of the University. The School of Physics is a thriving, passionate and internationally networked community boasting a rich legacy in teaching, innovation, and research. After more than 70 years’ development, the School has the emergence of a distinctive identity, featured with the integration of fundamental science and applied technology, which aims to address global challenges and unlock the future by the knowledge exploration, education excellence and research transformation. The School has won a reputation for frontiers physical science nationally and internationally.
There have been one Beijing key laboratory, two international science and technology cooperation bases, one discipline innovation and intelligence introduction base, and the Peng Huanwu Center for theoretical physics collaboration and education, etc. These resources provide good facilities for discipline construction, talent training and scientific research. The school has 120 full-time faculty members, notably hosting 1 academician. The School also encourage a diverse academic environment with 5 leading international faculty members coming from different parts of the world. Together with collaborators worldwide, researchers in the School are actively devoted to various forefront research fields, ranging from pure to applied physics, from subatomic physics, through micro-nano condensed-matter, to large-scale cosmology, enabling us to understand the distant past and foresee the far future.
The School offers a diverse range of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degree programs, guiding thousands of young minds in exploring the fascinating world of physics. With a student-centered approach, the School of Physics cultivates future talents with solid theoretical knowledge, exceptional practical skills, and a broad international perspective.
The School consists of three departments and an experimental teaching center. The primary discipline of physics encompasses six research areas: extreme condition physics, semiconductor physics, rare isotope physics, peculiar hadron states and particle physics, surface and low dimensional physics, quantum magnetism and topological physics.
Dedicated to integrating into the global physics community, the school provides students with a diverse and dynamic environment to engage in pure physics, applied physics, and interdisciplinary scientific research. Through world-class physics education and cutting-edge scientific research programs, the school inspires students' interest and expertise in physics, guiding them toward careers in the field. The school continuously enhances the quality and standards of its degree programs to set benchmarks for physics professionals. Many outstanding graduates have been nurtured by the school, pursuing careers as scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs.
