Why Beihang

The School of Software at Beihang University (BUAA) is among the initial 37 national pilot software engineering institutions authorized by the Ministry of Education and the State Development Planning Commission in 2002 and was selected as part of the inaugural group of specialized pilot software engineering schools in 2021. Our objective is to establish a world-class discipline in software engineering and to meet national requirements for implementing large-scale, safety-critical industrial systems. Through collaboration with leading universities, research institutions, and corporations, our focus is on cultivating exceptional software engineers who demonstrate a strong commitment to innovation, responsibility, and a global perspective in the fields of aeronautics and astronautics.

Our university is among the earliest in China to prioritize research in software engineering. In 2017, our school received a first-level “A+” rating in the nationwide discipline assessment. Currently, the software discipline at our university is guided by five eminent scholars of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. We host five premier national research centers, including the State Key Laboratory of Software Development Environment (SKLSDE), the International Joint Research Center of Big Data Science and Engineering, and the Trustworthy Networked Software Development and Operation Environment. Our university has established distinctive research directions encompassing software and theoretical frameworks for complex critical systems, big data science and computing systems, collective intelligence and collective software engineering, intelligent software engineering, safety-critical software and systems, as well as advanced methodologies and environments for industrial software development.
