The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (Public Administration) of Beihang University evolved from the former Department of Social Sciences, Institute of Higher Education, and Institute of Law. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences was established in 1997, and the School of Public Administration was founded in 2002.
Leveraging the opportunities presented by Beihang’s "high-quality liberal arts" plan and the new liberal arts initiative, the school adheres to the principle of "inheritance and transcendence, upholding integrity while innovating." Guided by the motto "Perseverance, Tenacity, Prudence, and Diligence," it upholds a development plan of "consolidating foundations, pursuing excellence, fostering collaboration, and striving for distinction." This approach has shaped a distinctive educational path, with Public Administration and Education as its strengths and "interdisciplinary integration and nurturing innovation" as its disciplinary direction. Since 2017, Public Administration has consistently ranked in the A- category in the Ministry of Education’s discipline evaluations, demonstrating continuously enhanced core competitiveness and social influence. The school is advancing toward becoming a high-level research-oriented institution in humanities and social sciences with Chinese characteristics and global recognition.
The school boasts a strong faculty, with over 80 staff members, including more than 70 full-time teachers (24 professors, over 40 associate professors, and more than 20 doctoral supervisors). Over 80% of the full-time faculty hold doctoral degrees and have overseas academic experience. In recent years, faculty members have secured an increasing number of major and key projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, yielding high-level achievements and earning dozens of national and provincial/ministerial teaching and research awards. Talent cultivation and scientific innovation have entered a new phase of connotative development.
