Overview

Introduction of School of New Media Art and Design

Beihang established New Media and Art major in 2002, and it has become an independent school in 2006.The school emphasizes the deep integration of fine arts and design, the intersection and fusion of art design and information technology, adheres to the strengthening of mainstream disciplines and the optimization of intersectional disciplinary features, constructs an aesthetic general education system, and aims to cultivate artistic talents with innovative and practical abilities.

The school fully utilizes the support of high-end bases such as the Virtual Reality Technology and System National Key Laboratory and the Digital Media Beijing Key Laboratory, absorbs students to participate in national and provincial-level design projects, and cultivates compound talents with both artistic quality and digital technology ability. The school adheres to the educational philosophy of valuing quality and pursuing excellence, implements small-class teaching, tutorial system, and individualized teaching in art education, actively adapts to the development trend of the information age and social needs, and is committed to the construction and talent cultivation of new media art design disciplines featuring network communication.

Majors

The school of New Media Art and Design has four disciplinary directions including artistic innovative design theory, immersive experience and interactive design, information art design, innovative product design and ergonomics. Since the establishment of the major, Beihang has emphasized the cross-discipline integration of art, design, information technology, and engineering technology, and has explored and practiced in aspects of talent cultivation, curriculum system, and cross-innovation mechanism, broadening the characteristic direction of combining digital media art and virtual reality, and achieving remarkable results, which has important influence in China. Teachers researched on both art and technology, with fruitful academic achievements.

They have undertaken a number of key tasks and formed advantage in platform innovation. The construction and development of design science at Beihang University will further leverage the advantages of multidisciplinary integration and rapidly form a distinctive first-class design discipline.
